Youth Ministries

ENGAGED AND EMPOWERED THROUGH CHRIST. JOIN US!

"How do we keep the youth of our congregation engaged, educated, empowered and commmitted to living out their faith? We do it through intergenerational support, mentoring, and providing impactful options for service, participation and spiritual growth. We do it by making each one of our young people feel valued and important. We do it by creating a family for them that is grounded in Christ's compassion and grace!" --- Dori Rossmann, LCR Director of Youth Ministry

One of the most important activties for our youth is Youth Night.

* Youth Night (held each Wednesday night during the school year)
          Kindergarten through 5th Grade meet from 4:30pm to 6:30 pm. Dinner is served at 6pm.
          6th Grade through High School (college age are also welcome) meet from 6pm to 8:30pm
          Choir for the younger kids meets from 6:30pm to 7pm.

ACTIVITIES
There are several opportunities for our youth to particpate in fund-raising and faith-building activities throughout the year. Some take place in other states such as: Evangelical Lutheran Church of American Youth gatherings (these are sponsored by the ELCA and offered to youth every three years from 9th Grade through high school seniors). These have included trips to Atlanta, San Antonio, New Orleans and Detroit; Mission Trips to Appalachia, Kentucky, West Virgina, North Carolina, Haiti and Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

Other activities are local and involve our youth serving the local community in various capacities. They include:
          * Hike the Hill (raising money for Relay for Life)
          * Relay for Life team (Tony's Troops)
          * Volunteering at the Hospitality Center
          * Homeless Night (youth sleep in boxes all night to simulate how it might feel to not have a place to live to raise awareness for homelessness in our community)
          * Cookie Walk
          * Cake & Pie Auction
          * Chili Cook-off
          * Canoeing
          * Beach and Bowling parties
          * Annual Six Flags Fright Fest trip

TESTIMONIALS
Following are just a few comments from our youth about their participation in the activities at LCR.

"I went on the Detroit trip and there are no words to describe how life changing that trip was! I built my relationship with God and with my best friends (my second family), and saw how much we were able to help people in Detroit. For us, it was a life-changing trip, but for the people of Detroit, it was life changing!" --- Amanda L. (about the most recent ELCA Youth gathering)

"It's a community of friends that are there for you through your ups and downs." --- Adam V (about Youth Night)

"The Detoit trip (impacted me) the way the peope reacted to us helping them and the way they all jumped in and helped not letting age or conditions stop them." --- Austin Z. (on the Detroit Youth Gathering)

"In North Carolina I experienced firsthand what it was like to make a difference in the lives of others by bettering their community and sharing my faith." --- Theresa S. (on our North Carolina mission trip)

"I like seeing what we can do next to affect our community." --- Chris V (about Youth Night)

Adults can help support the Youth Ministry in a variety of ways. First, we are always looking for volunteers; there are many opportunities for both adults and youth to give their time and talents. In addition, the LCR Youth Ministry depends on the LCR SCRIP Gift Card program to financially support our activities as well as make donations to the church's other programs and equipment upgrades as needed. If you are unfamiliar with the SCRIP program, there is always a table set up in the Narthex where you can get more information.

For more information on any of the Youth Ministry programs, events, or trips, feel free to contact Dori Rossmann, LCR Director of Youth Ministry at l_waters@hotmail.com.
